Why community radio?

Because it’s the voice of a neighborhood, a space where everyday voices matter. It’s not about glossy productions or commercial agendas, it’s about connection. Community radio gives people the tools to share their stories, cultures, and dreams. whether it’s a local song, a discussion on migrant rights, or a simple conversation about life. It builds solidarity, archives community memory, and lets people shape the airwaves together. It’s an open invitation to speak and to truly listen.

Who We Are

We are a collective of artists, designers, social workers, and activists working across disciplines. We Are Born Free Radio is our meeting point, a shared space where practices, voices, and experiences collide.

We believe in the power of sonic meeting. Radio is not just a broadcast tool for us, it is part of our artistic production. A space to listen, to gather, and to hold presence. Through radio-making, we create room for other narratives to surface, overlap, and coexist.

Our radio practice is tightly interwoven with our wider artistic and social work, from visual art and design to education, community organizing, and activism. These practices feed into one another, allowing sound to become a connector between different forms of knowledge, memory, and care.

We use radio as a living platform, a site for experimentation, dialogue, and collective authorship. A space where unheard voices are amplified, and where new ways of being together can be rehearsed.
